I was born in New Zealand, and moved to the UK in 1989. I lived in Kings Heath for a number of years, and now live in Balsall Heath.
My work is abstract-expressionist. I have long been fascinated by random shapes - e.g. coastlines, maps, splotches of concrete on the pavement, peeling paint. Some time ago I was smitten by Australian aboriginal desert dot painting. And I love the lustre of copper.
My works combines these features (though it doesn’t contain any specific items of Dreamtime significance). They are slightly 3D shapes, made of cloth mache or plaster and scrim, decorated with acrylic paint, and generally have some copper-foil element. They defy orientation, can be hung any way, and hence each can be several different pieces in succession.
