Carmela is an emerging artist, currently studying Fine Art student at Birmingham City University. Her practice encompasses ideas around fragility and domestic politics, taking shape in the form of mixed media and digital embroidery.
“I am very much still in the process of developing my practice and finding out my identity as an artist. Art school is really helping me to think critically about my ideas, and I’m in love with the process of experimenting with digital embroidery and fabric manipulation.”
Carmela’s first solo Exhibition ‘A rite of passage’ showcases a range of works that challenge and question what a woman’s place in society is. This exhibition is also symbolic of Carmela’s transition from student to artist.
